Google starts rolling out Call Screen feature to Pixel 2 series smartphones

It seems like Google started rolling out a new feature in its Pixel 2 series phones “Call Screen” feature which is actually originated from Pixel 3 smartphones. At the launch event of Pixel 3 series, the company announced about that the feature will be coming to the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL devices. At the moment, the company had revealed that Pixel 2 and 2XL devices will get the feature in November. As promised Google finally keep its word.

For unaware, Call Screen is a feature, which is part of the Google Assistant, and lets users screen the call. Basically, the Assistant answers the call to check who is calling and offers ways to respond to calls to the user. This means that users do not need to pick up the incoming call and instead, they can interact with incoming call with the help of text template questions or even type a message. The caller on the other end will interact with Google Assistant as a regular call. Call Screen will let users quickly detect whether they are getting a spam call.

This feature in Pixel 2XL was first spotted by Android Police, Thanks to the user for sharing screenshots of the feature. This feature update comes days after the Google rolled out its Nightsight feature for the Google Camera app on Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3XL.

While going deep into the details Nightsight is the latest camera feature that improves the quality of images takes in low light. To make it work, the camera takes multiple frames at different shutter speeds and then combines them together to create one final image.

The Call screen feature is limited to the US for now. The confirmation regarding the company would bring this feature to the global market is yet to be revealed. Google says this feature will initially be available later this year in New York, Atlanta, Phoenix and the San Francisco Bay Area to help people book restaurant reservations. It will roll out to other US cities in the future.

The company has said it will disclose to businesses receiving the call that they’re speaking to an automated system. For Call Screen also, Google Assistant will let the caller know that a screening service is being used.
