iPhone XR is the Best Single Camera Smartphone: DxOMark Report

| By DWR Editor

Apple recently introduced three new iPhones, the iPhone XS and Xs Max, as well as the iPhone XR, the entry-level smartphones of the year. The specifications are the same for these three, but the iPhone XR differs significantly from the camera compared to the Xs. Unlike the iPhone XS and Xs Max, the iPhone XR has single camera on the back. However, despite the single camera sensor, the iPhone XR received the highest rating in the DxOMark camera test.

According to DxOMark, the iPhone XR scored 101 points, claimed as the best smartphone with a single camera they have tested beating the last year’s Pixel 2 XL score. However, Google’s new Pixel 3 XL also rocks with a single camera, which hasn’t been tested by DxO yet.

The iPhone XR has a 12 megapixel camera with 1.4 μm pixels with an f.1.8 aperture along with OIS, PDAF and dual tone LED flash. DxO believes that individual photos from the XR camera scores 103 points with high quality standards. As a result, the iPhone XR captures images with excellent exposure and dynamic range in bright light and indoor conditions.

Of course, XR has lost its ground in features like bokeh effects due to the lack of secondary sensor. However, the device is capable to take identical shots as the iPhone XS and Xs Max.

Despite the unexpected low sales of the iPhone XR, Apple still has good news. The iPhone XR’s camera is the first in terms of DxOMark, which makes it more attractive in the market.
