LG is said to be working on a new flagship phone, G8 ThinQ, and the device is set to unveil at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019 later this month. Now, a new official post from LG’s official blog today teased the arrival of the LG G8 ThinQ at MWC 2019 and even revealed a main highlighting feature of the phone.

According to the post, the LG G8 ThinQ will include a 3D TOF sensor enabling a more secure face unlock similar to Apple. Recently, Huawei also included this feature in its flagship devices. The ToF sensor will let the device to take better selfies and the technology will increase the accuracy of its 3D face recognition system. The company has partnered with Infineon Technologies to bring the face-scanning tech which is apparently more accurate and uses infrared light also using much less power.

“Keeping in mind LG’s goal to provide real value to its mobile customers, our newest flagship was designed with ToF technology from inception to give users a unique and secure verification system without sacrificing camera capabilities,” said Chang Ma, Senior Vice President and Head of Product Strategy at LG, in a statement. “The LG G8 ThinQ featuring ToF will be the optimal choice for users in search of a premium smartphone that offers unmatched camera capabilities.”

Unfortunately, other specifications and official images of the G8 ThinQ are not available. Last month, LG G8 ThinQ image renders, 360-degree video based on the past design, rumors, and speculations surfaced online. In the rendered images of the LG G8 ThinQ shows the design of the phone which is almost similar to the G7+ ThinQ and there is a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner which could mean an in-display fingerprint won’t be implemented.

The recent leak even exposed the horizontal dual rear camera setup with no Laser Autofocus. The LG G8 ThinQ is expected to come with a 6.1-inch screen, 19.5:9 aspect ratio, 152 x 72 x 8.4mm dimension, USB Type-C port, loudspeaker grille, power button and SIM tray on the right, 3.5mm audio socket at the bottom, volume buttons on the left, and a Google Assistant button.
