OnePlus 5G with Snapdragon 855?

| By DWR Editor

Few months back, Chinese smartphone maker OnePlus announced 6T and now we have new information about the successor OnePlus 7. But according to reports, OnePlus 7 is not going to be the 5G phone. That is because, in 2019 a high end 5G smartphone is going to cost a way more than a 4G smartphone. The company is not going to increase the price just to provide the 5G. The company is going to launch a new phone with 5G and it isn’t going to be the OnePlus 7.

In the time of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Tech Summit 2018 event in Hawaii, OnePlus CEO and founder Carl Pei confirmed that they will be the first company to launch a 5G smartphone. It hints that the unnamed OnePlus 5G phone will be powered by Snapdragon 855. OnePlus 5G will be the first phone in Europe to use the Snapdragon 855 chipset.

In the tweet, OnePlus CEO has confirmed about company’s strategic partnership with EE carrier in the U.K to launch the 5G smartphone. Previous reports hinted that the device could be powered by Qualcomm‘s Snapdragon X50 5G modem and the latest QTM052 mmWave antenna module.

Separately, tweet from the OnePlus official account confirmed that the 5G ready smartphone from OnePlus will be announced in early 2019. EE’s 5G network will stretch 16 UK cities in 2019, starting with London, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Belfast, Birmingham and Manchester. Later, it will roll out to Glasgow, Newcastle, Liverpool, Leeds, Hull, Sheffield, Nottingham, Leicester, Coventry and Bristol.
