Oppo’s latest phone has a most beautiful notch you have ever seen

| By Shandilya

Oppo has announced the F9, a phone turns the notch into a pretty design element. The company has gone to great lengths to eliminate the notch with the ultra high-end Find X, of course, but the F9 is the phone that looks straight-up better with its notch than it would without.

The handset which was unveiled yesterday boasts a 90.8% screen to body ratio, it’s 19.5:9 screen covering most of the front and featuring a small V-shaped notch. The notch sports selfie camera 25MP with a hardware support for HDR.

The rear side it houses a 16MP + 2MP dual shooter. The second sensor uses a bokeh effect while the 16MP sensor does most of the work. It has a f/1.8 aperture.

The handset is powered by an eight-core Mediatek Helio P60 which specializes in AI tasks. This extends to the camera with AI Beautification 2.1. The chipset is coupled up to 4GB of RAM (with a 6GB option) and 64GB storage. The Oppo F9 runs Color OS 5.2 based on Android 8.1 Oreo.

The screen measures 6.3 inch in diagonal and has a 2,340 x 1,080px resolution. It’s an LTPS TFT panel that promises a solid 450 nits of brightness. It’s also the first phone to use Gorilla Glass 6, which is supposed to survive up to 15 drops from one meter(along with Oppo R17).

The phone packs 3,500mAh battery charges over Micro USB that uses Oppo’s VOOC fast-charging tech, which is the same thing as OnePlus Dash Charge. There is a headphone jack, a microSD slot, a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.

The back of the phone got an eye-catchy colour option with an impressive paint job and is available in three colours: Sunrise Red, Twilight Blue and Starry Purple. The first two feature a tessellated pattern while the Starry option is speckled with gold “stars”.

The F9 is launching in India and Southeast Asian markets including Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam. It’s also coming to Middle Eastern / North African markets such as Egypt and Morocco.

The phone is available for preorder now and will ship out on Aug 24. The price in Vietnam is VND 7,690,000, which works out to $330/€290 (that’s for the 4GB version).
