Samsung’s Second Foldable Phone ‘Galaxy Z Flip’ Launches at $1380

South Korean giant Samsung has finally unveiled its second foldable device, dubbed as Galaxy Z Flip in an Unpacked Event yesterday. The Galaxy Z Flip Z is the successor of Galaxy Fold that was launched in last year. Even though the new Galaxy Z Flip comes with a different design from the Galaxy Fold, it costs about $1380 which is approx Rs 98,377. The Galaxy Z Flip will be available in Mirror Purple and Mirror Black while another color variant called Mirror Gold will be available in selected regions.

The Galaxy Z Flip has a 6.7-inch flexible hole-punch display covered with Ultra-Thin Glass (UTG). The company has designed this new foldable phone to be used in three ways – closed mode, open mode, and the Flex mode. In the closed mode, the phone is shut and the user operates it by using the small 1.1” Super AMOLED cover display on the back while in open mode the phone is opened up flat to be used as a regular smartphone. In the third Flex Mode, the display of the phone can be stopped at any angle similar to the adjustment of the laptop screen. 

Speaking about the specifications, the Galaxy Z Flip is powered by the Snapdragon 855 Plus SoC and it is coupled with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.0 storage. In terms of optics, it comes equipped with a 12MP f/1.8 1.4um primary rear camera paired with a 12MP camera with an f2.2 aperture. For selfies, there is a 10MP f/2.4 sensor.

It also features a fingerprint scanner on the right-side frame of the upper part of the device. It packs a 3300mAh battery with support for 15W fast charge and on the software front, it runs Android 10-based One UI 2.

The Galaxy Z Flip will be available from February 14. Also, the company announced the Thom Browne Edition Limited Edition that will be unveiled in New York today (February 12) at the New York Fashion Week. The Galaxy Flip Z will come with a free YouTube Premium subscription and the box will include a pair of AKG USB Type-C earphones and a case.
