Realme 9i launch details and specifications tipped

Chinese smartphone brand Realme hasn’t officially confirmed the Realme 9i. However, a new leak suggests that it will be the first smartphone to be unveiled in January 2022 as part of the Realme 9 series. It is expected to be equipped with a MediaTek Helio G90T processor, a 5,000mAh battery, and quad rear cameras. Realme 9i will be the successor to the Realme 8i, which went on sale in India in September. Four models are expected to be offered by Realme under the upcoming Realme 9 series: Realme 9, Realme 9i, Realme 9 Pro, and Realme 9 Pro+/Max.

ThePixel.vn (in Vietnamese) reported that Realme could introduce the 9i smartphone globally in January 2022. The smartphone is expected to go on sale in Vietnam in the first quarter of 2022. The report includes some of the specifications for the Realme 9i.

According to the report, the Realme 9i will have a 6.5-inch full-HD+ IPS LCD display and a MediaTek Helio G90T SoC. To recall, the predecessor Realme 8i was launched with MediaTek Helio G88 processor. Further, the Realme 9i reportedly sports 8GB RAM and 128GB native storage.

At the back, Realme 9i is expected to feature a quad-camera setup with a main 64-megapixel sensor, an 8-megapixel sensor, and a pair of 2-megapixel sensors. The handset is rumored to feature a 32-megapixel front camera. As per reports, the Realme 9i’s battery capacity will be at least 5,000mAh.

Realme 8i specifications

The Realme 8i has a 6.6-inch full-HD+ display with a 1,080×2,412 pixels screen resolution, 90.80 percent screen-to-body ratio, 100 percent DCI-P3 colour gamut, 180Hz touch sampling rate and Dragontrail Pro protection. Furthermore, it has six different dynamic refresh rates — 30Hz, 48Hz, 50Hz, 60Hz, 90Hz, and 120Hz. 

The Realme 8i is powered by a MediaTek Helio G96 SoC, which was launched in July. It has up to 6GB of LPDDR4x RAM and it also supports 5GB Virtual RAM that enhances multitasking by using the phone’s free storage.

In terms of optics, the Realme 8i comes with a triple rear camera setup consisting of a 50-megapixel primary Samsung S5KJN1 sensor with an f/1.8 five-piece lens, along with a 2-megapixel monochrome portrait sensor and a 2-megapixel sensor with a macro lens. There is a 16-megapixel selfie camera on the front that supports artificial intelligence (AI) backed beautification functions, HDR mode, portrait mode, and a ‘Panoselfie’ feature, which is claimed to help capture wider selfies.

The Realme 8i has up to 128GB of internal storage that can be expanded with a microSD card (up to 256GB) using the dedicated card slot. Realme 8i runs on Realme UI 2.0 based on Android 11. 

The phone features 4G VoLTE, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v5.0, GPS/A-GPS, and a Micro-USB port. Additionally, the phone has a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.

The Realme 8i comes with a 5,000mAh battery that supports 18W fast charging. It measures 164.1×75.5×8.5mm and weighs 194 grams.
