Google’s Android 9 is named ‘Pie’ – New Features & More

The latest version of Android name from Google finally revealed on Monday. And you guessed it right! The newer version has named as Android Pie (the P is for Pie). This new update comes first to the Google’s own Pixel smartphones starting 6th August. Google firstly announced a preview version of the OS in March of this year, then hinted some features at its annual I/O developer conference in May.

Users who signed up for the Android Beta program, that lets them try pre-released versions of the OS, will receive the update by the “end of this fall,” if they own a device from Sony Mobile, Xiaomi, HMD Global, Oppo, Vivo, OnePlus and Essential. Google mentioned that it is also working with other partners to launch or upgrade devices with Android Pie this year. However, the company didn’t leak additional information on the exact date when those updates would come. So, you will have to wait as long as at least until the end of the year before Android Pie is officially made available on your phone.

As Google typically names its new versions of Android alphabetically and with a chocolate name. Like we have seen the previous Android version was called Oreo, Marshmallow, Nougat, Lollipop, KitKat, Jellybean, Ice cream sandwich, Gingerbread.

Talking about the important features of Android Pie, as battery life optimization has been a much-focused thing of Google’s previous OS updates from Marshmallow, Android Pie adds a new feature named “Adaptive Battery”, that will prioritize the apps you use most and limit battery power for apps you use less.

Android Pie also includes some new privacy features. The company has created a separate permissions category, called Call Log. Another interesting feature is the Google’s new “digital well-being”, a tool that gives an idea on how much time you’re spending on your device overall, as well as how much time you’re spending in each app that you use.

We will update all the new features of the new Android Pie. So stay tuned for that!
