One of the popular recent phones from Huawei, Honor Play which was launched by the company for a price tag of Rs 19,999 in India on August 6 is set to receive the new update. The Honor Play is a gaming-centric phone that currently runs on company’s proprietary EMUI 8.2 based on Android 8.1 Oreo. To survive in the competition with other smartphones in the same price bracket it seems Huawei is leaving no stone unturned to improve the user experience of the Honor Play. The phone running the Android 9 Pie is now spotted on Geekbench revealing the performance score.

In addition, the Geekbench listing also shows the performance of the Honor Play COR-TL10 variant on Pie. In single core, the phone manages to score 1,914, while in multi-core it scores 6,763. The Honor Play attains similar scores on Android 8.1 Oreo currently, so the Android Pie update does appear to be well-optimized for the device at this stage.

With the coming of Android 9 Pie, the Honor Play is likely to get new features including new gestures, adaptive battery and brightness, digital wellbeing support, improved security features and more. The Android 9 Pie update is also expected to come with general bug fixes and user improvements.

Honor Play users can expect to receive an over-the-air update notification on their handsets soon. But it may take some time for the update to reach every unit.

The Honor Play equipped with a 6.3-inch full-HD+(16.0 cm) FullView display with a resolution of 1080×2340 pixels and the device is powered by the octa-core Huawei HiSilicon Kirin 970 SoC along with Mali-G72 GPU and the built-in neural processor unit aka NPU. The phone is to be released with 4GB and 6GB RAM variants.

Regarding optics, the Honor Play features a double camera setup with AI. The device comes with a 16-megapixel primary lens with f/2.2 aperture and PDAF, and a 2-megapixel secondary lens with f/2.4 aperture. At the front, the smartphone has a 16-megapixel camera with f/2.0 aperture.

The Honor Play is paired with 64GB of internal storage and it has a memory card slot to expand the storage up to 256 GB via microSD card. Other general features of the honor Play includes 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, and USB Type-C. Sensors installed the cell phone are an accelerometer, surrounding light sensor, whirligig, and vicinity sensor.

In the interim, the Honor Play is backed by a 3750mAh battery with quick charging feature. The measurements of the Honor Play are 157.91×74.27×7.48mm and weighs 176 grams.
