Nokia 7 Plus to Get the Android Pie 9 Update Early September

| By DWR Editor

HMD Global promised that all the Nokia phones will get Android 9.0 Pie update in the long run, however, for the time being, Nokia’s CEO stated that the Nokia 7 or more will be the first phone to get the Android Pie 9.0 update.

All the recently launched Nokia phones are part of Google’s Android One programme, so they will be the first to receive new Android OS updates and timely security patches from Google. The Android 9 Pie was released earlier August and the update is already available on the Google’s Pixel devices as well as Essential phones. Other smartphone manufacturers also have started releasing the Android Pie update for their most of their popular phones.

On the launch event of the Nokia 6.1 Plus and Nokia 5.1 Plus in India, Chief Product Officer of HMD Global, Juho Sarvikas, said that the Nokia range of devices will soon receive an update, to be specific Android 9 Pie. While Sarvikas did not announce a confirmed date for when the update will be given to the earlier launched Nokia phones, he confirmed that the Nokia 7 Plus will be the first Nokia device to get the Android Pie update end of this September. Sarvikas also stated that Android Pie’s Digital Wellbeing feature will first become available on Android One devices, so by design, all Nokia phones will get this feature earlier then the other Android phones.

The device received the beta updated earlier this month so that we can expect the Nokia 7 Plus to receive a stable OTA update by the end of September. This will make the first Snapdragon 660-powered phone to get the Android 9.0 Pie update.

To recall, Nokia launched two new smartphones in India with the surprising pricing and specification, Nokia 5.1 Plus and Nokia 6.1 Plus.
