Nokia 9 Renders, 360-Degree Video Show Penta-Camera Setup, Slim Bezels and Zeiss Branding

Finnish smartphone maker, Nokia is set to take the smartphone camera to a whole new level with the launch of the world’s first smartphone to come with Penta-camera setup named ‘Nokia 9’. Recently, the South Korean smartphone giant Samsung announced the Galaxy A9, the world’s first ‘quad-camera’ smartphone. Even though the launch date of the Nokia 9 is still unknown, 91mobiles has now leaked renders and a 360-degree video of the Nokia 9 in collaboration with @OnLeaks.

Nokia 9 with Five Cameras, Zeiss Branding

Earlier, it was reported that the Nokia 9 would launch as the Nokia 9 PureView, making it the first HMD Global phone to feature the old Nokia’s PureView branding. The PureView branding means that the smartphone will have a special emphasis on camera, and the renders back that up. The Nokia 9 is said to arrive with seven rings on the rear which point to five camera lenses, the sixth being a dual-tone LED flash. The seventh ring on the right seems to be a dual-sensor which could be used for proximity detection, according to 91mobiles.

The report goes on to add, “We can’t confirm exactly what the Penta-camera lenses will consist of, but if we had to assume, we’d guess the setup includes a telephoto lens, a wide-angle lens and a depth-sensing camera, among others. The renders show Zeiss branding between the cameras, and while there isn’t mention of PureView on the body, it’s almost a given that HMD Global will revive the iconic PureView branding with the Nokia 9.“

Nokia 9 Specifications

The major highlight of the Nokia 9 is Penta-cameras. Nokia is tipped to come with a massive 5.9-inch QHD display with 18:9 aspect ratio and narrow bezels on the top and bottom. It’s powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 under the hoods coupled with 8 gigs of RAM. The leak specs reveal that the Nokia 9 will come in only one variant with 8GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The phone could come with a 3,800mAh battery.

Presumably, it was earlier expected to arrive by the end of 2018, but now it seems that the company is planning to launch the smartphone at the beginning of 2019.
