Latest OnePlus 6 News

About two weeks following the OnePlus 6’s launch, the limited edition Silk White version of the phone and OnePlus’s Bullets Wireless earphones are officially going on sale.

The Silk White OnePlus 6 is “the company’s boldest design to date” featuring six layers of white glass that have been mixed with pearl powder and gold accents for the frame, fingerprint sensor, and more. It’s a downright stunning look and will cost $579 USD with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage “while supplies last.” Along with the Silk White OnePlus 6, the excellent Bullets Wireless earphones are launching, available on June 5 at 10:00 AM ET.

Special Editions

OnePlus loves special edition phones. nePlus has once again worked with Disney on licensing a special version of the OnePlus 6 for the Chinese and Indian markets. Last year, OnePlus offered an understated Start Wars variant of the OnePlus 5T, and now the Avengers version takes advantage of the hype behind the recent film release.

The Avengers version comes in a unique box and includes an Iron Man case and a OnePlus/Avengers co-branded medallion, which is neat. And while there’s a familiar glass back on the Avengers Edition, it has a Kevlar-style design underneath. And only comes in the 8GB/128GB version. It’s available to order through the OnePlus site in China, with a shipping date of May 22.

Always on Ambient Display

OnePlus has released the first software update for the OnePlus 6. While the update brings some good features and bug fixes. it also removes the phone’s always-on ambient display.

The news was officially confirmed by OnePlus on Saturday in a statement reported by Piunika Web, in which the company said the feature had been removed due to concerns over battery life.

Slimmer Bezels

There is a drastic change in the design of display in Oneplus 6and its predecessor(Oneplus 5T).In 2018 Oneplus 6 included design trends  like bigger edge to edge display Unlike some other phones on the market, there are still bezels — but they’ve been seriously slimmed down.

The notch became a trend after Apple used it in the iPhone X, but Apple wasn’t the first company to employ this design style. It’s now a common sight on many Android phones, such as the Huawei P20 Pro and the LG G7 ThinQ.  There is notch cutout at the top with housing camera and earpiece. If you’re not a fan of the notch, you will be able to hide it through the software in a later update.

You can use front-facing camera to unlock the phone, or you can opt for the fingerprint sensor on the back. Face Unlock isn’t as secure as Apple’s Face ID, unfortunately, and it’s meant purely for convenience over security.

The company promises that handset is water resistant but doesn’t offer an official IP rating for water-resistance additionally it says a “special type of foam” under the screen and battery cover that prevents water from getting into the guts of the device. It also has waterproof materials in the headphone jack and fingerprint sensor.

The AMOLED screen on the phone comes in at 6.28 inches, with a resolution of 2280 x 1080 pixels. It’s a solid resolution for a phone in this price range, but most flagship phones step things up to at least a 1440 pixel display.

On the rear side it sports a dual rear-facing camera, along with a flash and fingerprint sensor, and the OnePlus logo. Despite the tech crammed in, it looks very minimalistic and stylish, which is good news for those who appreciate a streamlined design.

On the bottom, there’s a USB-C port and a headphone jack, along with a bottom-firing speaker. The phone supports OnePlus’ Dash Charge fast-charging technology.

Specs

With a Snapdragon 845 and up to 8GB of RAM, the phone should be able to go head-to-head with any new flagship smartphone in the performance department. In fact, it may do even better considering the slightly lower-resolution display. The 3,300mAh battery isn’t huge, but it should get you through at least a day of medium usage.

Like previous OnePlus phones, the OnePlus 6 features the latest version of OxygenOS, which is currently based on Android 8.1 Oreo.Frankly speaking, OxygenOS is similar to stock Android, with far more customization options and a few more visual tweaks.

Camera

The paparazzi of selfies and shutterbugs is demanding a lot more good camera specs and now Smartphone cameras are getting better and better, and the OnePlus 6 is no exception.

The device, like the OnePlus 5T before it, offers dual rear-facing cameras with a primary 16-megapixel sensor, optical image stabilization, and an aperture of f/1.7. The secondary sensor sits at 20 megapixels with an aperture of f/1.7.

The camera is capable of recording video at up to 4K at up to 60 frames per second, and features a super-slow-motion mode that can record both 720p video at 240 frames per second, and at 480fps. The difference is, it can do so for up to a minute in time, and allows you to select the parts you want in slow motion. The camera app also has a new video editing feature.

More About Colors

Mirror Black is going to be the most common, since it’s the only color offered in the cheapest tier. It’s shiny, reflective glass, so it gets fingerprint-y, but that’s OK because you’ll likely put the phone in a case It’s also a little slippery, which is to be expected. Mirror Black is offered in 6GB / 64GB configurations for $529.

  • Midnight Black is the color we’ve come to expect from OnePlus over the years, though the matte-looking finish belies a glass back, too, like the Mirror Black. Midnight Black is only available in 8GB / 128GB and 8GB / 256GB configurations for $579 and $629, respectively.
  • Silk White is the most limited of the three colors, and will be available June 5. It’s also covered in glass, but like the Midnight Black model it has a matte finish and is easier to grip. Its white back has rose gold accents, and it’s definitely the nicest and most unique of the three colors. It will only be available in the 8GB / 128GB configuration, for $579, and once the run is sold out, OnePlus is not making any more.

Party Cases

OnePlus has unveiled a series of first-party cases for the OnePlus 6, and they’re all pretty great.

This year, there’s a fancy new protective bumper made of woven nylon, and while it adds a bit more bulk than the typical snap-on,  it looks and feels awesome.
