Samsung Galaxy S10 First Impressions: A Flagship Worthy of Its Name

Galaxy S10 Display

Display

The Galaxy S10 series comes with a Samsung’s brand-new Infinity-O display that includes a punch-hole to house the front-facing camera.

The Galaxy S10 is the first smartphone from Samsung with a punch-hole display. The new design is an alternative to the ugly and trending notch. The new design avoids the cut-out in the middle of the display with a hole in the top left corner housing the front camera.

Samsung Galaxy S10 Fingerprint

Fingerprint Scanner

Samsung Galaxy S10 comes with a highest-performing, thinnest, most reliable Qualcomm ultrasonic fingerprint scanner. Moreover, it is very accurate and fast. This new technology provides high-performance protection across a wide range of conditions—dry, wet, and even contaminant exposure.

Galaxy S10 Camera

Camera

The camera on the new Samsung Galaxy S10 is one of the best around just like other Samsung flagships. Its main strength is being able to just capture the pictures you want, taking in sharpness, light, and color to make something appear just the way you saw it. The device is capable of taking images at a 123-degree field of view, like the human eye which is great.

Galaxy S10 equipped with the triple camera set up at the back where one is a 12-megapixel sensor with f/2.4 aperture (telephoto lens), the other is a 12-megapixel sensor with dual aperture and wide-angle lens, similar to the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy Note 9 series. The third is an ultra-wide angle lens with 16-megapixel resolution and field of view of 123-degrees. The cameras support 2X optical zoom, AI scene detection, and super slow-motion video recording.

Even though it is early to judge whether the camera on the Galaxy S10 brings any significant improvement, but the initial few samples look promising.

Performance

Galaxy S10 comes with two chipsets – the US version will come with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset while the global variant will come equipped with Samsung’s Exynos 9820 chipset. We know that SD 855 is almost close to Apple’s A12 Bionic chip when it comes to raw performance. It comes with 8GB of RAM with 128GB and 512GB storage options. Samsung is known for optimizing its own chip with the software and that could offer a great experience for users.

Galaxy S10

Wireless charging

The Samsung Galaxy S10 features a reverse wireless charging facility. This means you can use the Galaxy S10 and S10+ to wirelessly charge other devices, like your Galaxy Buds or even a different phone. Amazing isn’t it? The device comes with a 3400 mAh battery and offers Fast Wireless Charging 2.0 at 12W. You can use this reverse charging feature by pulling the Quick Settings menu and turning the feature on. Along with charging another device you can even use the S10! But you can expect your battery to drain much faster. This feature might not be useful considering only 3400mAh battery capacity on the device.
