Sony announces the Xperia XZ3 smartphone, its first with an OLED screen and Snapdragon 845 SoC | Digital Web Review

Sony announced its blockbuster new flagship phone Xperia XZ3 at IFA 2018. On the occasion, the company wraps off the Xperia XZ3, the successor of the Xperia XZ2 that was launched at MWC 2018 this year, looks quite different from its predecessor. The handset boasts a speedy Qualcomm processor, an ergonomic design, and improved speakers.

Compared to its predecessor, It features an IP68-rated dust- and water-resistant and its design with rounded corners curved at either edge and a taller display resulting in tinner bottom bezel, and an edge-to-edge Gorilla Glass 5 screen that takes full advantage of getting it such a price segment, minimalist 7000-series aluminium top and bottom bezels. Surprisingly it’s a notch-free. The handset sports single camera setup on its back, and a circular fingerprint scanner placed at the centre. You won’t find a 3.5mm headphone jack onboard.

The Smartphone goes sale on October 17 in the US which is priced at $899.99 dollars, which roughly translates to Rs 63,700. Consumers can pre-order the device which starts on September 24 and will be eligible to get a free pair of Xperia Ear Duo headphones. However, there is no word about its launch in India.

Speaking of specs, The smartphone features a  screen with 6-inch Quad HD+ (1440 x 2880) panel with an 18:9 aspect ratio. It’s OLED — a first for a Sony phone — and has touch-sensitive edges that pull up a shortcut menu of apps when tapped.

Under the hood, the smartphone hooked with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 system-on-chip paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. For powering. It has 3,300mAh battery and upgraded S-Force front-facing speakers that deliver sound up to 20 per cent louder than the Xperia XZ2’s pair. In terms of camera, On the rear end a single 19MP Exmor RS MotionEye camera with hybrid autofocus that can capture high dynamic range video in 4K (or slow-motion video in 1080p). Up the front, It has a 13MP model with a f/1.9 wide-angle lens.

On software, the Xperia XZ3 ships with Android 9.0 Pie –– the latest version of Android. There’s a streamlined camera app that launches automatically when you hold the phone in landscape orientation, a shortcut to the Google Lens, and a gallery of Animoji-like 3D faces.
