Did Motorola Fake Its Moto Mod 5G Speed Test?

In the time of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Tech Summit 2018 event in Hawaii, US-based chip maker unveiled its first 5G-equipped mobile SoC – the Snapdragon 855. During the event, OnePlus CEO made an announcement and said that company is going to launch the first 5G phone with Snapdragon 855.
At the summit, Motorola demoed a live 5G speed test on its prototype 5G moto mod stuck on a Moto Z3.

Participating media was able to test the speed test itself by downloading a 1GB file from the Motorola application. The journalist who tested the model said that it reached a speed of 470 Mb / s. However, Verge reports that Motorola’s 5G Moto Mod speed test was massively misleading. Did Motorola fake the demo?

Yes. Shockingly, the 1 GB file that were downloaded from the demo version comes from a server other than the Internet. This means that this is not an experiment in the real world. The file also appears compressed. This means that before transferring data, you can compress files up to 1 GB to 40%.

A spokesperson for the Motorola website says that compression is common in real life, and the file itself is an important task for users, but there really aren’t any real truths for the 5G test. This is due to the fact that compression cannot give an idea of the actual speed of the network.

Motorola announced that the test speed for several days was a temporary device and did not know the compression. The company now offers speeds from 300 Mbps to 500 Mbps. If you want to see the promised level of real life 5 Gb / s, wait a little longer.
