Huawei is Now Bigger Than Apple! Huawei Overtakes Apple in Smartphone Shipments

Chinese smartphone brand Huawei is now the second largest smartphone manufacturer in the world according to the new reports from IDC and Canalys. As per the latest report of IDC, the overall market has dropped by 1.8 percent in Q2 2018. But now Huawei has a 15.8 percent market share with 54.2 million smartphones shipped in Q2.

Huawei is shipping slightly more smartphones this year compared to last year. Apple also has a somewhat bigger market share with 12.1 percent of the market.

Still, Samsung leading the market share with 20.9 market share, even though they are shipping 10.4 percent less. Samsung and Huawei offer a wide range of phones and launches new smartphones throughout the entire year. Apple generally launches the new phone in September, which makes a tremendous spike amid the last quarter of the year. Apple will probably surpass Huawei and perhaps Samsung in two or three quarters.

Huawei leads the market with a 27% share, and decent sales of its Huawei P20 flagship phone with more than 7 million units shipped worldwide. The numbers are all the greater given that Huawei is basically restricted in the U.S.

IDC’s also noted “At the same time, Xiaomi, OPPO, and Vivo are all slowly pushing their customer base upstream at a price tier slightly lower than the top three. This is an area they should all watch closely as the builds in this segment are getting increasingly more advanced”.

So Apple is no longer a giant in terms of overall smartphone shipments. But, this might be a temporary position for Huawei as Apple may perform better in shipments in coming days.
