Major Chinese smartphone maker Oppo smartphones have fused the very latest technologies with advanced hardware. A few days ago, a report hinted that the Oppo will be launching the world’s first smartphone with in-display camera technology. Now, the company has confirmed that the full-fledged smartphone with an in-display camera will be unveiled on June 26.
Oppo took to Weibo to tease the upcoming smartphone and the shared video highlights the evolution of the front-facing camera technology in the Oppo phones. A teaser video shows the rotation selfie camera of Oppo N series, waterdrop notch, the pop-up camera setup on the Oppo Find X and the shark-fin setup on the recently launched Oppo Reno series.
The phone in the new teaser video is in-line with the smartphone which was teased earlier this month. The video shows a clear design of the upcoming phone in the last few frames. However, the name of the smartphone is still unclear. An earlier report had claimed that Oppo is working on a Find Y smartphone and it could be the same smartphone with the under display front-camera.
In the end, the video shows a notch-less phone that’s sitting on top of a desk and has a full-screen display without any space for sensors apart from the earpiece. When the user opens the camera app to take a selfie, it shows the live view of the room’s ceiling, thus confirming the presence of a front-facing camera under the display.
Oppo VP Brian Shen revealed that the technology is still “in its early days”. Shen said “At this stage, it’s difficult for under-display cameras to match the same results as normal cameras, there’s bound to be some loss in optical quality. But, no new technology jumps to perfection right away”.
After the announcement from Oppo, another Chinese brand Xiaomi also teased its own take on the under-display phone camera. An hour after the Oppo showed off a working prototype of its under-display selfie camera phone, President of Xiaomi, Lin Bin has shared a teaser video of the prototype phone. Unlike Oppo’s under-display phone which displays a black bar at the top end of the screen when the camera app is opened, Xiaomi’s under-display phone camera keeps the full-screen design when you take a selfie.
