Redmi is Working on Flagship Phone with Snapdragon 855

Xiaomi’s sub-brand Redmi has made a name for itself with the release of the first smartphone named ‘Redmi Note 7 Pro’. Now, the general manager of Xiaomi Lu Weibing has uncovered that an upcoming Redmi device with a Snapdragon 855 running under the hood is in the works. He posted a photo of him with rest of the Redmi crew at Xiaomi’s Shenzhen R&D Institute. The company seems to be working aggressively on bringing the latest chipset on the device.

Lu Weibing even stated that the team spoke about two devices in details and indicated that it is ready to ship a premium smartphone under the Redmi brand. However, no one shared the other information of the upcoming flagship smartphone but it has confirmed that the device will be powered by Qualcomm flagship Snapdragon 855.

According to the latest research from Counterpoint’s Market Monitor service, Chinese smartphone makers Xiaomi and Huawei were the only two brands with double-digit growth in shipments.

By entering the premium smartphone segment, Xiaomi’s sub-brand Redmi will compete with high-end devices from the stables of OnePlus, Apple and Samsung. Along with these other brands, the Redmi’s upcoming flagship will compete with the Poco F1, Xiaomi Mi 8 and the Mi MIX 3.
