Xiaomi Patents A Smartphone Screen With 4 Curved Edges

Samsung’s Galaxy Note Edge was the first phone with an edge display way back in 2014. The device had a curve on one side of the smartphone. Later, the company had unveiled the Galaxy S6 Edge with curves on both the left and right edges. Since the launch of Galaxy Note Edge, the curved screen has become standard on Samsung’s flagship smartphone.

Xiaomi 4 Edge Curved Smartphone

After Samsung’s first curved screen phone, many smartphone makers introduced the phones with a curved screen. Now, it seems Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi is set to fight with Samsung in terms of smartphone design. The company is planning to introduce a smartphone that has curves on the four edges.

It means that the display will be curved and not the frame of the smartphone. The Chinese smartphone brand has just patented this theoretical display at the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO). And according to the report by LetsGoDigital, Xiaomi is either planning to include a front camera under the display or waive it completely because the diagrams do not show any front-facing camera. The rear panel does show a pair of cameras and an LED beside it, whereas the bottom panel shows a Type-C port.

Design patents alone do not mean Xiaomi will introduce such a smartphone, but the company could launch this to compete with Meizu Zero and Vivo APEX 2019. However, it is still unknown whether this phone would ever be commercially available, but don’t lose hope. Xiaomi might launch it as a limited version in order to maintain its existence in the smartphone market.
