Xiaomi’s spin-off Redmi will be one of the first brands to launch a smartphone with a 100MP camera. The company confirmed this on Twitter by posting the teaser of the upcoming phone with 100MP camera. To recall, South Korean giant Samsung and Oppo’s sub-brand Realme have confirmed that they will be launching smartphones with a 64MP camera sensor on the rear. Now, it is confirmed that Xiaomi also working on the 64MP camera smartphone currently.
Manu Kumar Jain also announced on Twitter that the firm is currently working on a 64MP smartphone powered by the ISOCELL GW1 sensor and they will launch the 100MP camera later. However, he did not mention that launch date of the Xiaomi’s 100MP camera phone. It seems we will have to likely wait till next year for the launch of a smartphone with the teased 100-megapixel sensor.

As per the tweet by Manu Kumar Jain the 108MP camera will offer photos at 12,032 x 9,024-resolution. The company claims that this higher resolution camera sensor will result in ultra-clear photos. According to the reports, the 108MP sensors are coming with up to 10X optical zoom. Qualcomm has also indicated that it will support higher resolution sensors, including ones with 64MP and 108MP resolution.
The smartphones that are launching with 64MP camera this year will make use of Samsung’s 64-megapixel ISOCELL Bright GW1 sensor. This sensor has a 1/1.7 inch sensor size, which is 38 percent bigger than the 1/2 inch sensor used on the 48MP camera sensors.

It will be interesting to see if Redmi can beat its Indian rival Realme when it comes to launching the first 64-megapixel smartphone. Xiaomi has already confirmed that it will be launching a 64MP camera phone in India by the fourth quarter of 2019. Unfortunately, no specifications of the smartphone are available as yet. Xiaomi may reveal some details about its next phone with 64MP camera in upcoming days.
